General description :
Mentioned as early as from the XIth century, the place-name of Narcastet made explicitly reference to the presence of a castle ( castet ). The village is de facto strategically located on a way of transhumance and dominates a fording on the Mountain stream of Pau. Narcastet has also an established historical association with a pilgrimage dedicated to Saint Ambroise. This route, marked out by explanatory signs, will lead you to the heights of the village,to the discovery of casterly clods and chapel Saint Ambroise, on the road of the sanctuary of Notre-Dame of Piétat.
