General description :
A village named Nay already exists in the plain in the XIIth century. In 1302, the viscountess of Béarn transforms it into a mattering administrative center to limit the influence of communities living in the moutains nearby and also to develop trade there. The ancient fortified town of Nay is so created with a plan in checkerboard organized around a central place. It is a success: in the course of the centuries, Nay becomes one of the main trade and industrial centres of Béarn. This heritage walk is a way of discovering the characteristic elements of a medieval ancient fortified-town from Bearn and its original evolution during the Industrial revolution.
